Resident Services What We Do

The ability of any organization to effectively carry out its mission is directly related to capacity - that is, the strength of the organization itself, the skills of the people who work there, and the quality and presence of partner organizations in the community. Capacity requires a long-term commitment to nurture the abilities of individuals, organizations, and communities to help them prepare for the challenges and opportunities that will face them over time.

NPF's Human Capital, Training and TA program addresses this need by sponsoring training opportunities to develop core competencies and increase the synergy among CDCs in Oregon.

Goals

  • To develop individual capacity by providing skill development opportunities for executive directors, boards, and staff of community organizations.
  • To build organizational capacity by strengthening skills in core operating areas in support of sound and innovative business practices.
  • To increase industry capacity by developing and retaining highly skilled people committed to working in the non-profit sector.

In the Fall of 2004 NPF undertook a strategic planning process using the Appreciative Inquiry approach. Much of the discussion focused on our work to build capacity and develop human capital within the CDC industry. We heard very clearly from our partners that our training programs are essential to their success and stability.

Throughout 2005, NPF worked closely with all of our industry partners to refine our training delivery system. We are solidifying a network of training and technical assistance that begins with the foundation of national-caliber trainings. These trainings are supported by local offerings, peer support systems, and on-site technical assistance and coaching. We are also working to align our training delivery system with performance goals set by the CDC community, so that we can best support them in fulfilling their missions.
