Guiding Principles What We Do

We will pursue strong, visionary leadership - not only at NPF, but throughout the industry. We will look for progressive, systemic long-term change that maximizes the impact of the community development industry. We will lead by helping local community development organizations better define, pursue, and fulfill their vision. We will bring together resources and engage diverse local, regional, and national partners. Together, we will identify community needs and design workable, outcome-oriented solutions using a combination of innovative and traditional approaches. We will strive for excellence in all that we do, and work to inspire excellence in our partners.

We will build ideal collaborative relationships - we will settle for nothing less than a shared vision, open communication, creative dialogue, and trust among our partners. We will create and promote safe environments for designing and attempting new approaches. We will model and encourage high levels of honesty, trust, respect, and patience with and among our partners. We will share the decisions, risks, and rewards of these collaborative efforts to help us achieve our common goals.

We will inspire and support relevant, innovative programs - programs that enable CDCs to be agents of community change, transforming the lives of low-income people and creating healthy communities. We will make time to scan the horizon for new opportunities and provocative ideas. We will keep expanding resources to support CDCs. We will keep leading collaborative efforts to build organizational capacity and skills. Our training programs will create exceptional learning experiences for participants at all levels of skill through a diversity of topics, training styles, and intensity. Our training and technical assistance will balance the experiential with the academic, and will encourage peer-to-peer learning and ongoing support.
